Type J, Fe-CuNi

Type J thermocouple consists of a positive iron wire and negative constantan wire. Type J has a restricted temperature range compared to type K. However type J has a higher sensitivity (approximately 50 µV/°C). The temperature range is curbed because of the Curie point of iron (770°C). This thermocouple type is suitable for vacuum and inert atmospheres. The type J thermocouple can also operate in oxidizing atmospheres. However this will result in a reduction of the thermocouple lifespan.
