Type R, Pt13%Rh-Pt

Thermocouple type R consists of an 87% platinum/13% rhodium positive wire and a platinum negative wire. This type is very similar to the type S. The main difference between type S and R is the higher percentage of rhodium in the type R. This makes this thermocouple cable more expensive yet gives a (small) higher output and is overall a bit more stable than the type S. Because of its high accuracy and stability this type of thermocouple is used in low temperature applications.
