Type S, Pt10%Rh-Pt

Type S thermocouple consists of a positive 90% platinum/10% rhodium alloy and a negative platinum wire. Type S is commonly used in oxidizing or inert atmospheres. The operating temperature of this type is up to 1600°C for continuous use. This thermocouple life span is shortened when operated at higher temperatures, but still accurate for short term use at temperatures higher than 1600°C. Type S thermocouple is frequently used in the pharmaceutical industries.
